Heather Mongilio is a personnel reporter with USNI News, where she covers the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Her work focuses on recruitment, retention, sexual assault, mental health and health concerns, such as COVID-19.
Before joining USNI News, Heather covered the Naval Academy for The Capital through Report For America. She also previously worked as the health, social sciences and Fort Detrick reporter for The Frederick News-Post, located in Frederick, Maryland.
Prior to that, she worked at the Carroll County Times and ARLnow.com.
Heather graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in science writing in 2018. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism and psychology from American University in 2015.
Beyond writing, Heather has experience in podcast, video reporting and photojournalism.
